Welcome to the website for the MA major in Rhetoric and Composition! We invite you to explore our program and the opportunities it offers for advanced study in writing and the teaching of writing, including such exciting areas as minority rhetorics, digital literacies, writing theory and practice, history of rhetoric, gender and language, political rhetoric, writing centers, and more.

2007 Rhetoric Review Survey of Doctoral Programs in Rhetoric and Composition

Here is the latest survey of Rhetoric and Composition doctoral programs from the University of Arizona. The survey lists such information as number of graduates, job placement rates, and student demographics within the departments for all participating Ph. D. programs in the U.S. This is an excellent resource for those who intend to pursue doctoral studies after graduation.

First Year Writing Activities
Dates: Wedesday and Thursday, Oct. 21st and 22nd.
Time: TBA

First-Year English, the Writing Center, and the MARC will host a roundtable discussions on instructors’ best (most successful activities) for first-year English courses

Applying for Ph.D. Programs
Date: Wednesday, Nov. 11th.
Time: 4:00
Place: MARC and MATCprograms will host a roundtable discussion on selecting and applying for PhD programs in Rhetoric, Composition, and Technical Communication

caravan or hitch a ride down with us to Lockhart, TX for barbecue and conversation at Kreuz Market. Dr. Jackson will be coming from Austin and is happy to take up to 4 people with me. Others will be coming from Kyle and San Marcos, so if you need a ride, just let us know.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to those MARC faculty and students who have been accepted into the Conference on College Composition and Communication!

♦ Dr. Octavio Pimentel will be presenting his paper: Building on (Brown) Students' Cultural Capital: Hip Hop and the Writing Classroom

♦ MARC student Gwen Templin will be speaking as a member of a panel. Her topic is WI Courses: A Medium for Revitalizing WAC Programs

♦ MARC students Jenna Allen, Stephanie Stewart and Bettina Ramon are presenting on the panel: Weaving a Web of Literacies: Rethinking the Negative Spaces

♦ MARC student Blanca Loya will present as part of the panel: "Yo, Is That the Remix!" Enhancing Multicultural Perspectives in the Classroom Through Explorative Literacies and Urban Culture. The title of her individual presentation is: Using Graffiti Art to Rethink Composition and Identity Issues in the Classroom

Congratulations to the latest MARC graduates!

Jenna Keith Allen defended her thesis, entitled "Enacting a Feminist Pedagogy: Integrating Weblogs into the Composition Classroom," in August 2009. Jenna plans to teach composition at a community college after graduation.

Gina Guzman defended her thesis, entitled "Re-articulating Training Practices: Valuing the Ethnic Voice in Writing Center Tutor Training," in May 2009.

Yazmin Lazcano defended her thesis, entitled "Historical Memory Negotiated: Latino/a Rhetorical Reception to Ken Burns' The War," in August 2009. Yazmin will enter the Rhetoric, Composition and Linguistics Ph.D. program at Arizona State University in the fall.

Chris Sisto completed his comprehensive exams for completion of the MARC program in May 2009. Chris continues his career as a lecturer in the Department of Education at Texas State.
